World On Fire

Most people believe that the world ten years from now, or 50 years from now (the number isn't important) will be worse than the world today. I guess I'd hafta say I'm one of those people. Maybe because I'm a pessimist, maybe because that's the way the world seems to be going, i'm not sure. But I mean what does that say about human kind? Are people just not willing to fight for what they believe is right? Do most of us just have a negative outlook on life? Are people less religious therefore their religion or guilt is not forcing them to do the "right" thing? Are people just getting more violent and competitive leading them to wage war when it isn't necessary? Is more technology leading to more bad things than good?
But then I think of how most people want to have children sometime in life. Again I'd hafta say I'm one of those people. But tonight I was thinking, why would people that believe the world is going to be worse in the future want to bring another innocent child into that horrible world? It sounds somewhat selfish of the parents that just because they want to experience being a parent that they bring a child into the world they believe will be worse when their child is growing up/is an adult. I mean I know not all parents are like that. Some people don't believe the world will be worse 30 yrs from now. And maybe they believe that their own child could make a difference in making the world better. But I think then unless you're willing to /are fighting for a better, more peaceful world you shouldn't have a child believing that they'll fight for the cause you're not willing to. That's putting too much pressure on the child and it's being really hipocritical. So as of this very moment I've decided that by the time I have children I want to be fighting for what I believe and making some sort of contribution to making the world a better, more peaceful place for that child to live in. I feel blessed to have those kind of parents, teachers who try to educate children like me so that they can make the world a better place for them and everyone.

"World On Fire"
-Sarah Mclachlan

Hearts are worn in these dark ages
You're not alone in this story's pages
Night has fallen amongst the living and the dying
And I try to hold it in, yeah I try to hold it in

[Chorus]
The world's on fire and
It's more than I can handle
I'll tap into the water
(I try to pull my ship)
I try to bring more
More than I can handle
(Bring it to the table)
Bring what I am able

I watch the heavens and I find a calling
Something I can do to change this moment
Stay close to me while the sky is falling
Don't wanna be left alone, don't wanna be alone

[Chorus]

Hearts break, hearts mend
Love still hurts
Visions clash, planes crash
Still there's talk of
Saving souls, still the cold
Is closing in on us

We part the veil on our killer sun
Stray from the straight line on this short run
The more we take, the less we become
A fortune of one that means less for some

[Chorus X2]

-It seemed to fit.
